In 1982, Kenneth Honeycutt and his young wife Anna sold everything they owned and moved to a farm in rural Nebraska. Kenneth and Anna had both worked in the film industry and had originally bonded over their conservative religious views. Over time, they had become disillusioned with the modern world and sought to create a better place for themselves and their future family, as well as anyone else who wished to join them.

Thirty years later, Freedom Ranch is a well-established community who live by a very strict interpretation of the Bible's teachings. The farm is entirely self-sufficient, growing all their own food - the whole community is vegan - and sourcing all their own power. They also sell produce and goods at local markets. While extremely isolated, there is an open arms policy toward anyone who wants to give up the outside world and join.

Homosexuality is not allowed within the community. Contraception is not provided and as most medical concerns are taken care of internally, there's not really any way around that. Obviously, pre-marital sex is off the table as well, as are abortions. There are no TVs on the farm, and the only computers are used exclusively by Anna and the other people who run the farm's finances, etc. All books and other entertainment has to be approved by Kenneth and Anna, so there's almost nothing that isn't outright Christian, and what is, is still highly conservative.

Babies are expected to stay with their mothers until they can walk, when they start schooling at the commune's kindergarten. At age seven, children progress to the commune's school, which teaches all ages and year levels in both traditional subjects and also skills the commune needs, as well as extensive Bible study. At sixteen, children are deemed to be adults and are assigned jobs, as well as being encouraged to pick a spouse. Everyone is expected to marry by eighteen at the latest and to begin having children immediately.

Every day begins and ends with a community prayer. Sundays start with a sermon delivered by Kenneth, with the rest of the day set aside for rest, with optional (but highly encouraged) Bible study sessions. Adults who don't attend are expected to find time in their schedules for individual Bible study.

It's important to note that Kenneth and Anna genuinely believe in the community they've created and the things they teach - they aren't psychopathic cult leaders.

The community averages around one hundred people. Currently this plot is only open to the people written up below, but as time goes on there will almost definitely be need for other people, so keep an eye out! Everything else you need to know should be included below, but if you have any questions, don't hesitate to message me. I've had this plot/family/whatever building in my brain for a long time, so I'd love to see it all get taken up and go somewhere.

NOTE: I'm sure I don't need to say this, but this site is clearly host to a wide variety of people with a wide variety of belief systems, so let's keep the dialogue around religion respectful <3

HARMONY HONEYCUTT ZOEY DEUTCH | SEVENTEEN youngest honeycutt. engaged to arthur. training under her sister-in-law to be a midwife. scared about her impending marriage but her faith tells her it will be okay. played by emily.
ARTHUR LASSITER JASON DOHRING | TWENTY-EIGHT son of two of the first converts. engaged to harmony. commune paid to have him go to medical school and train to be a doctor. recently returned after completing his training. is uncomfortable about his engagement, but knows it's an honour that kenneth arranged it for him. played by may.
