i need you here with me
it was almost 6.30am and jess had barely slept all night. she was laying completely still, listening out for chloe in the next room since she knew that her daughter would be awake soon. it was almost possible to hear her mind whirring in the silence of the room. she had so much on her mind at the moment. she had applied for a job in new york, a job that was literally everything she had ever wanted. it was with the new york times a senior journalist and she knew that once she was in with the times that there was so much potential for her to move up and reach the top. the only problem was that she hadn't told jaxon. they had talked about perhaps moving to a different city at some point but had decided that it would be better for him to finish his degree before they relocated so that he didn't have to transfer. but this kind of opportunity didn't come along very often and so when someone at work had mentioned it to her, she knew that she had to apply. honestly, she wasn't really sure what would happen if she ended up being successful and that was playing on her mind. and then last night, jaxon had told her that he took a call from them saying that her skype interview a couple of days ago had been great and that they wanted her to fly to new york to meet them. so now he was pissed off with her and she knew that she had some grovelling and explaining to do but he had gone to bed before she really had chance to talk about it properly.

she sighed to herself, rolling over so that she was lying on her side, her body pressed against jaxon's back. she let her arm drape across him, kissing the area of skin between his shoulder and his neck. this situation was pretty unfamiliar to her. when they fought, it was usually her that held the grudge so she wasn't used to having to say sorry. she knew that she was in the wrong but at the same time, she wanted him to understand how much the opportunity meant to her. but there was another thing on her mind. before the job came along, she had been thinking about them trying for another baby. she felt like she was ready to go through it all again. chloe was eighteen months old, they had been together for almost three years and if she couldn't take her dream job at the moment, she wanted to use the time to expand their family. she knew that they needed to take things one step at a time but if he was really set against them moving any time soon, then she was going to bring up the next subject. "are you awake?" she murmured quietly against his skin, tightening her arm around him.

Jaxon, like Jessica, barely got any sleep. He slept with his back to Jessica, still unable to speak to her after what he’d found out. It was unusual of him to be angry with her. He was usually the one to grovel and beg for her forgiveness after he’d done or said something stupid. But now, he was furious with her. They were together for three years now, which was surprising. So much time had passed since that drunken night they had together, and since their first date yet it still felt like yesterday. Jaxon was a lot more comfortable though – the paranoia he had constantly, thinking that Jessica would leave him for someone better was gone now. They had Chloe, they had a family – they were a family. Jaxon hadn’t proposed to her yet though. Not officially – he kept putting it off for some reason. It was unlike him. He was normally very forward with her about their relationship. He wanted to get married – the fact that they had a baby without being married went against everything he believed in, but they were happy together. Why would he want to change that?

As Jessica snaked her arms around him and kissed him, Jaxon tried his best to remain cold. It was so uncharacteristic of him to want to remain angry – he normally took any chance he got to work everything out. It was so difficult for him to hold a grudge. He sighed and laced his fingers with hers. He was still angry with her, but not as much as he was the day before. He couldn’t remain angry with her for long. He loved her too much. ”Yeah.” he murmured. It was early, he should’ve been asleep, but he hadn’t been able to sleep since he found out about New York. He wanted to go – had things been different, he would’ve been so excited, but he hadn’t finished school and having to transfer for his last year seemed silly to him. He pulled his hand away and turned around to face her, trying his best to still seem angry with her, even though most of the anger had already faded away.

although she'd drifted in and out of sleep, she had felt him moving next to her all night. he was sleeping just about as far away from her as he possibly could in the bed and it felt horrible. she was cold and the bed just felt too big. she wasn't naive enough to think that simply holding onto him was going to make things better but it was a good start. it was horrible that they were both so stubborn because even though she was sorry for going behind his back and not telling him what she was up to, she couldn't be sorry for doing something that she had always dreamed of. but she had to try and hold that back because she really didn't want them to get into a full blown fight over all of this. they had an amazing life together now and they both adored chloe. on the outside it looked perfect but she just wanted something more now. she needed something else whether it was the job and the move or a new addition because even though she was happy, it felt like they were getting into a routine. like things were just the same, day in and day out and that definitely didn't sit well with her.

she was about to roll over and just get up before she felt his fingers in between hers. shivering from the heat of his body against hers, she squeezed his hand, rolling onto her back again as he turned to face her. it was obvious in his eyes that he still wasn't happy with her but she didn't really blame him. she just wished that he could see this in the same way that she did but she also knew that it was such a huge thing for her to ask of him. "good morning." she said quietly, running her thumb along his cheekbone gently. even though she could see he was still upset, the fact that he was talking to her at all was a good sign. she knew that she still had to tread carefully. they were both tired, he was still annoyed with her to some degree and they were both terribly stubborn and that wasn't a very good combination. "i'm so sorry for what i did, jax. i really am." she told him, letting her hand drop back by her side.

In the past three years, Jaxon had never slept so far away from her in bed before. He usually slept facing her, with his arms wrapped around her, whether she was facing him or not. He enjoyed going to bed at night and being able to hold her tightly and it felt strange, not being able to do that for the first time. He was so angry with her. It took a lot of willpower to be able to remain as angry with her – it normally took him twelve hours, maximum, to get over something like that. Jaxon usually understood, and even now, as he thought about it, how could he blame her for wanting something like that? Hell, if he got a job offer in New York as a lawyer, he’d want to take it. He’d talk to Jessica about it though. That’s what annoyed him the most – she didn’t talk to him about it. He assumed, because she didn’t tell him, that she’d just leave. It was foolish of him to think that way – they had a child together, they had almost the same legal rights as a married couple did because of Chloe, but Jaxon was torn. He didn’t want her to leave without him, but he didn’t want to hold her back either. He just didn’t know what to do.

”Morning.” He replied, trying to suppress a smile. He listened and nodded. ”I know.” Jaxon couldn’t blame her for doing what she wanted to do. He knew how much it meant to her. Before he came along, all she wanted was to be great at what she did – this was her goal, and he understood that, but he also knew that things weren’t the same as they used to be. She wasn’t by herself anymore; she had to think about him and Chloe. ”I get it. This is your dream, I get it. But why did you have to go behind my back? You didn’t think I’d be happy for you?” He asked, a little offended now that he thought about it further. He would’ve been so happy for her. He was studying, but she already had a job that she loved. He wasn’t so lucky, and maybe he was a little envious of that, but he would’ve been so happy for her. Granted, he had one more year left, but he could always transfer. New York had great schools – better schools than San Francisco did. Even though transferring would be hard, all Jaxon wanted was for Jessica to talk to him.

even though she liked to think that she had control of pretty much every situation, she knew that jaxon really had the final say on this one. they were both powerless around each other because as stubborn as they wanted to be, they both knew that they would avoid really hurting each other at all costs. and sure, this had been her dream when she was sixteen, writing for her high school newspaper and when she applied to college to study journalism and when she graduated and when she was offered a job with the san francisco chronicle but now it wasn't just about her dreams. their daughter was the most important thing in her life and jaxon was a very close second and she had to think about what was right for them too. if he flat out refused to move with her, she would be out of this world angry but she wouldn't go anywhere because she loved him and their little family too much. she wasn't a push over by any means but she had responsibilities now. responsibilities that she never imagined would be a part of her life but a lot had changed in three years and she wasn't about to throw it all away.

she still wasn't entirely sure how she had found someone so unbelievably perfect. most guys would probably be screaming about the fact that she had done something like this. in some ways, she felt that if they had have had this conversation last night, it would have resulted in some screaming but now that they had both had the chance to calm down, everything was a little bit more adult and they had both had the chance to think things through. she shook her head quickly against the pillow, frowning slightly. "no, of course not. i just..." she paused, glancing away from him for a couple of seconds, staring at the sheets that she was stroking with her fingertips that covered them both before she looked back at him again. "honestly? i didn't think i had a chance. it's the new york times, people all across the world read that paper and i'm just a journalist all the way out here. and then i got the phone call and you've got all of these papers and tests coming up and you're stressed out, i can tell." she sighed, shifting position again so that she was lying on her side too, proping her elbow in the pillow with her head resting on her hand. "i know it's not an excuse, i should have just told you but i guess i just got carried away. and i know we've talked about it before and we made a decision and i'm not going to do this at your expense so it doesn't even matter." she told him, her heart sinking right to her feet as she said it out loud for the first time.

Fighting wasn’t the answer. They used to fight so much before Chloe was born but since then, they wanted to keep it to a minimum. Jaxon learnt how to be a little more patient. He realized that things weren’t the same as they used to be back when he was single – he had so many people to think about now. He had become selfless to the point where his needs and wants were bottom rank. He had made so many sacrifices but he was happy nonetheless – he would do it all over again, exactly the same way. He didn’t want anything else – he had Jessica, he had a beautiful baby girl, they lived a great life. There was nothing more he wanted.

Jaxon probably would’ve shouted if Chloe weren’t in the other room, even though he hated himself when he shouted. It was why he decided to avoid Jessica instead. He didn’t want to shout but he didn’t know much he could control his temper once he was already angry. ”You should’ve just told me. We could’ve worked something out.” Jaxon sighed. He wanted Jessica to have what she wanted. He was still a student, but she had a job and this was her dream. He didn’t know if he could live with himself if he took that away from her. ”What if I transferred?” He suggested. It wasn’t an easy decision, deciding to transfer but he could study anywhere, Jessica had to be in New York. ”There are a lot of good schools in New York. Columbia, NYU.” It was early to be talking about something so heavy but they had no choice – they barely had time to themselves anymore since Chloe started walking and talking. ”Is this why you’ve been acting so strange lately? It’s like you’ve been a little… down, recently.” Jaxon had been worried for a while now. When he found out about New York, he was still a little worried – he would’ve expected her to scream with delight when she found out, but instead she hid it from him.

it was usually jess who had the temper that started their fights but for all the bad things that happened between them, they had so many good points too. she knew that the change of having children could break couples apart and on top of that, they had the added stress of jaxon being back in college, her interfering parents and she seemed to be working crazily long hours recently. but for her, the added pressure didn't make her feel like she didn't want to be with him anymore. in fact it made her realise how amazing he was when she came home from work and he'd made dinner or something stupid like that. and they still had amazing sex which was something she had worried would stop once they had been together for a while but it hadn't. sure, they were certainly over the honeymoon period - she was pretty sure that ended when she found out she was pregnant after a couple of months of them being together - but things were still good between them and she didn't want that to change. she knew how she could get though if things started to get into some sort of boring routine. she needed variety in her life, new things and new challenges. it was how she had always been except now she was conflicted between these two amazing things in her life and she didn't really know which one to do.

jess didn't see jaxon get angry all that often but she knew that she had pushed him too far once he did lose his temper. he was actually being a lot calmer than she expected but she wasn't taking it for granted just yet. "i know i should have but i know what you're like. you would have made all of these plans and i needed to figure out if it's definitely what i want to do. i shouldn't have kept it from you but sometimes i just need to think about things before hurricane jaxon arrives and makes decisions for me." as soon as the words left her lips, she regretted them. it was a bit of a de ja vu situation, reminding her of when he found out that she was pregnant almost three weeks after she found out herself. she sighed when he talked about transferring, shrugging her shoulders. "but it's such a huge deal for you to do that now." and it was. it would be life-changing for her but it would be even more so for him. professors had different teaching styles and his last year was an important year. she was just conflicted between dragging him across the country with her now or waiting for a year and potentially losing out on a huge opportunity. "but i mean they only want to interview me. there's no guarantee that i've even got the job so we can't really make plans yet, i don't even have to go for the interview." she shifted towards him again, letting her head rest against his shoulder. she had no idea how he had managed to become so selfless after being a bachelor for so long but she loved him for it. shaking her head slightly, she tightened her arm around him. "well, kind of. before the job came up i was thinking about other stuff too, like about us and chloe and i love where we are right now and then the job came along and i don't know... but i want another baby."

Their relationship was the most fulfilling thing Jaxon had. He knew that nothing would ever compare to what they had as a family. They were a great couple, and people found it hard to believe that they had only been together for three years. And with Chloe in tow, they looked so happy. They were happy – Jaxon couldn’t be happier, and he couldn’t wait to graduate so he could spend more time with them. He felt guilty that Jessica had to do most of the work until he graduated. He knew how much he loved her job but he also knew how much she’d been working lately and he wanted nothing more than to be able to provide for his family like she was doing now. They were still really close, probably even more so after Chloe was born. He was so afraid that things would go downhill from there, after Chloe was born, with their own relationship, but it didn’t. in fact, their relationship had become so much stronger since then.

Jaxon’s anger had faded, or he’d thought it did, until she spoke. ”Hurricane Jaxon? Really? That’s what you think of me?” He shook his head, pulled away from Jessica and sat up straight, turning to give his back to her. ”I don’t make decisions for you. I just make sure we have options, just in case. I was willing to move, because I know how much this job means to you.” He said, turning slightly, trying his best to keep his voice down. Chloe was still young and she probably wouldn’t understand what was going on but he didn’t want her to hear anything. He wanted to protect her from a lot of things, like the fights he had with Jessica, not that they happened often, but when they did, he didn’t want her to be there. ”It doesn’t matter! I’d like to think that you would do the same for me if I got offered my dream job.” He said aggressively. Jaxon let a lot of things slide, but he didn’t like being called names or being personally attacked like that. ”So what’s the big deal? If you told me or not, it wouldn’t have made much of a difference.” He turned to face her. He didn’t want to start arguing again but as usual, when something like this happened, he got defensive and he was hurt. To top it all off, he was already irritated to begin with. His face fell and he stared at her. Another baby? He didn’t expect that, not from Jessica. He assumed that he would have to push her to have another child. Jaxon wanted another baby, he wanted Chloe to have a sibling but there was something he wanted to do before that. ”You want another baby?” He asked in disbelief.

the fact that jess worked at the moment and jaxon didn't was not an issue for her at all. she had been the one to push him to go back to school in the first place and she definitely wouldn't have done that if it was going to be an issue for them. jaxon had the money to be able to go back to school and follow his dream and that was fine by her as long as she could work too. she wasn't the kind of woman who wanted to be kept by someone. her job meant a lot to her and she worked hard to earn everything that she did. it would have been an issue if he expected her to stay at home with their kids and cook and clean all day because that just wasn't who she was. she loved chloe and she loved jaxon but spending every second of every day with them, cooped up in a house just wasn't an option for her. her maternity leave had been amazing because she got to watch chloe grow for the first year of her life but she knew that if she had have been off work for any longer, she would have driven herself insane. for all the bad aspects of her job, it had so many perks too and overall, she enjoyed it which was probably the most important thing for her. but the set up that they had with him at school, her at work and chloe with a nanny through the day was fine by her at the moment.

she rolled her eyes when he sat up and she could tell from his voice that she had pissed him off. "calm down, that's not what i mean." she sighed, sitting up and rolling her eyes again as he turned his back to her. she could have made a comment about him being immature but decided it probably wasn't a good idea. "i just meant that i knew you would be starting to figure stuff out and i didn't want you to be applying for transfers and whatever else before i knew what was going on. and i know you would and i really love you for that but i don't want to uproot you and chloe without being completely sure that we're doing the right thing." she told him, sitting forward slightly as he began to turn back around. it was taking a lot for her to keep herself calm now that he was getting angry but she really didn't want this to turn into a full blown row for them. she had already admitted that she was wrong and told him that she was sorry. sometimes she said the wrong things but he had taken it the wrong way. she didn't mean it as a bad thing, she just meant that she needed time to figure things out before he started getting worried about how he was going to fix all of this for his family. "i told you, i just wanted to make sure of everything before you got concerned with it all." she could tell by the look on his face that he was shocked by her talking about having another baby. she could understand that, just a few years ago she wouldn't have thought that one baby would have been on her horizon, let alone two. "i know i can't have it all but the woman who interviewed me on skype asked about what my family plans were and it made me realise that we should do it sooner rather than later. chloe's almost two and i want her to have at least one brother or sister... you don't want another baby?" she asked, frowning, shifting so that he couldn't turn away from her.

Seeing Jessica go to work everyday while Jaxon stayed at home or went to class irritated him. He wanted to share the financial burden with Jessica, and not have her carry it by herself. He felt helpless by going back to school, even though he was in his final year. He didn’t regret it – he didn’t want to live off of his parents forever and working as an architect wasn’t an option. Jaxon never wanted Jessica to stay home – he loved that she was independent and didn’t depend on anyone for money. He never pegged her as the housewife type and she wasn’t, he respected that. But the fact that their family depended on her only annoyed him. Sure, he had his parents, but since Chloe was born, he tried not to take from them as much as possible. He wasn’t the same person he was back then and he didn’t want them to have an excuse to come and see Chloe whenever they wanted – he wanted to keep his daughter as far away from his parents as possible.

Jaxon didn’t know how what she said could’ve had an alternate meaning. He knew that she was a little impulsive when she spoke and they were arguing – so was he, which is why their arguments were bad sometimes. ”What did you mean then?” He asked, still irritated, leaning against the headboard and crossing his arms. ”Yeah, and we can decide if you’re doing the right thing together. I don’t get why you have to keep things from me. You do it all the time. It’s like I’m not even here.” Jaxon shrugged and shook his head. He didn’t like feeling out of the loop – he didn’t expect her to tell him every single thing, but he wanted her to tell him about the things that mattered. This was one of them. ”You did the exact same thing when you were pregnant. What did you think would happen if you told me?” It was a rhetorical question – he wanted to prove to her that nothing bad was going to happen because she told him. Sure, the pregnancy thing was different, but he had told her that he wasn’t going anywhere without her. A hint of a smile was visible on Jaxon’s features as he shook the back of his head. He thought about it briefly – he had been thinking about it for a while but there was something else he wanted. ”Look, I love what we have, and I love Chloe and both of you, you’re my life. But I don’t want more kids if I’m not… if we’re not married.” Jaxon sat up and faced her, hoping that she wouldn’t shut him out. He knew how she felt about getting married, but he wanted it. It was something he believed in and he wasn’t letting that go for now. ”If we do that then… we can have six kids if that’s what you want. But I can’t if we’re not married.”

it didn't matter to jess that jaxon had stopped using his parents money. money wasn't the centre of her world. having a baby and having to support them all had meant that the way that she spent her money had changed completely but it wasn't a huge deal right now. she couldn't waste money on an amazing pair of shoes anymore or she couldn't live on pasta or something for a week because she had a heavy weekend coming up. she could admit that she had always been a little stupid with her money but now that she had responsibilities, everything had changed and she was fine with it. sure, they had to be more careful with everything and his parents money would have been helpful and made their lives a little easier but she knew how he felt about his parents and about their money and she respected that. and she knew that he would get a job as soon as he could graduate and then it wouldn't be a big deal anymore. they were comfortable and that was all that mattered. although taking the job in new york would probably be beneficial for them because she would be on a lot more money, but the cost of living would be way more and that was another thing that they needed to talk about too. if it would even be possible for them to do it.

he sat with his back against the headboard and she straddled him, her knees either side of his so that he couldn't keep turning away from her. it hurt when he did that and it pissed her off too. she sat back on his legs, her arms folded across her stomach. "like i said, i just didn't want you to start taking over and arranging thinks and stressing out about it when you already have so much going on and when i still needed time to think." she didn't know how she could make it more clear to him. she had said the wrong thing before but it made sense to her and she knew that they often disagreed about this kind of thing but she couldn't change it now. "because i never know how you're going to react. you should know by now that i need space to think about things on my own sometimes and i know you want to help me but i don't like things to be complicated. i can't change how i am, you just need to give me time." and now they were about to get into a fight about something that they had been over before. she should have just kept her mouth shut but it was too late now. he wanted her to marry him before they had more kids? that was probably the most pathetic thing she had ever heard. they had talked about marriage before and jess had reluctantly agreed that when he asked her, she would say yes but it wasn't something that she wanted and he knew that. "are you being serious? you're going to bribe me with a baby so that i'll marry you?" she climbed off him, sitting on the side of the bed for a second before getting up. turning back to look at him, she shook her head. "you're sick." she told him before walking out of the room.

More money could’ve helped – his parents’ money would’ve helped. They weren’t tight. Jaxon sold his old apartment and apparently, it was worth a lot. And that money helped them a great deal, but Jaxon was used to designer suits and a very lavish lifestyle. They changed as soon as Chloe was born – he didn’t need most of it anymore. His lifestyle had changed completely – he had gone from being a bachelor who slept around to being a family man in less than ten months. The things that mattered to him a year ago didn’t matter to him at all now. All he cared about back then was getting drunk and sleeping with beautiful now. Now, he cared about getting a job once he graduated, being a good boyfriend to Jessica and a great father to Chloe. His priorities changed, everything changed and in a good way. He couldn’t do whatever he wanted but he was fine with that. He got to spend his day with his best friend and girlfriend, and his daughter.

Looking up at her as she straddled him, he sighed and nodded. ”Fine. I get it. But maybe you should start letting me know about things before I find out from other people. I want to know what’s going on with you.” He leaned forward slightly and wrapped his arms around her waist. He wasn’t over it yet, he tried to understand and at the same time, he wanted her to understand where he was coming from. They spoke at each other – and he respected the point she was making but he still wanted to be in the loop. ”I know. I just don’t want you to feel like you need to hide things from me. I’m happy you. You got the job you always wanted. I don’t want you to think that you can’t do it just because I’m studying. I can always switch schools. You might not always have this opportunity.” He reached out and cupped her face in his hand, rubbing his thumb against her cheek as he spoke. Jaxon didn’t mind where they were – he loved her here, he could love her in New York. It made no difference to him – in fact, he wanted to go to New York. The timing might’ve been a little off but moving to New York had been a dream for a long time. He looked forward to being able to move there with Jessica. ”I’m not bribing you!” Jaxon rolled his eyes as she climbed off of him and stormed out her their room. He slammed his fist against the bedside table, climbed out of bed and followed her. He wasn’t dressed, all he was wearing was a pair of boxer briefs, but he didn’t care. He followed her into the kitchen and gazed at her with a somber look on his face before wrapping his arms around her waist, trying to get her to listen.. ”I’m not bribing you. I just want to get married. It’s something I want. It’s something I’ve always wanted.”

it had been pretty difficult to adjust to not being able to spend money on things that she didn't need, more so before chloe was born than after. once she had her baby in her arms, she knew that she would give chloe anything she ever wanted and if it meant that she went without then that was just how it was going to be. there had been times where she wanted to suggest that they go to mexico for a week, just so that they could let go but she didn't want to ask him because he would want to make her happy and he'd take money from his parents, even though he didn't want to. he had adjusted pretty quickly and so she had to as well. it wasn't like her parents had a lot of money when she was growing up. they were comfortable, just the way her and jaxon were now but it wasn't like they could afford designer clothes or fancy cars. and then when jess had started earning her own money, she had set her priorities entirely wrong. she would rather have a prada bag than a beautiful apartment or a brand new car like some of the people she worked with. it was things along those lines that had changed for her. although she probably still spent more money than she should have on clothes for chloe, just because baby clothes were so adorable.

jess stopped once she reached the kitchen, resting her hands on the counter and leaning against it, starting down at the floor. she couldn't believe that he was turning this around like he was. he knew that she wasn't bothered about getting married so why would he hold that over her head when having a baby was such a big deal? she heard a bang from the bedroom which startled her a little but as she turned to see what was going on, she saw him coming towards her. looking down again, she felt his arms around her waist and she had no choice but to turn and face him although she tried to avoid his gaze by staring off towards the other room. "and you would rather waste money on a stupid fucking wedding ceremony than on a baby or on something worthwhile?" she asked, folding her arms over her stomach. "forget it, it was a stupid idea. i don't want to talk about it anymore." she said, moving his arms from her waist and making her way to the fridge. she took out some of chloe's milk and started warming it for her. she was always grumpy when she woke up and she never wanted her proper breakfast right away. jess was quite surprised that she hadn't woken up already what with jaxon making a noise and the sound of their voices since they had stopped whispering now. "can you wake her up please?" she asked, keeping her back to him.

Had Jaxon known that Jessica was finding it that hard to deal with their money problems, then he would’ve gone to his parents. He hated asking his parents for anything (though he didn’t have much of a problem with it when he was a bachelor), but he hated seeing Jessica and Chloe unhappy even more. If it were up to him, he would’ve spoiled them both. He knew it was unhealthy but he wanted to give them everything they wanted. He felt guilty that he couldn’t do that just yet, but he knew he’d be able to eventually. Lawyers were well-paid and even though he would’ve just been starting out, his reputation as his father’s son, as much as he hated it, would’ve gotten round eventually. Jaxon might’ve disliked being known because of who his parents were, but he didn’t dislike it enough to turn away clients if they came knocking.

Making Jessica angry wasn’t Jaxon’s intention. Every time he tried to talk to her about it, she’d shut him off or change the subject. He never knew why she didn’t want to get married; he knew that she didn’t want it. ”Who said anything about a wedding? I don’t care about a stupid wedding. I just want to be married to you.” He rolled his eyes as she walked away and he turned to watch her. ”We could go to City Hall right now if you don’t want a wedding.” he shrugged. The wedding wasn’t important to him. Sure, he might’ve liked seeing Jessica in a wedding gown and having everyone he loved being there to see them get married but he knew Jessica would never agree to that. ”I’m not saying we have to get married right now. We could get married in a year, or two, or three. Whatever. I just want to know that it’ll happen.” Jaxon watched her, hoping to get a positive reaction out of her. ”No. You brought it up. Now we’re going to talk about it.” He was adamant. He wanted more kids – he wanted Chloe to have siblings and he wanted everything she did, but he always wanted to get married. It was important to him and he couldn’t quite explain it, but it had always been something he wanted which was surprising, considering the life he lived before Jessica.

money wasn't an issue, at least not at the moment. in a way, it was just her being spoilt because a lot of her friends and colleagues didn't have children or partners or husbands yet so they still had all of their money to splash on whatever the hell they wanted. she missed that but not enough to make him feel uncomfortable by asking his parents for money. she knew that he had the money left over from selling his apartment but if they were going to be moving somewhere else, whether it was in the near future or once he had finished school, they were probably going to need that. it was pathetic but she didn't want people to think that she was with him because he had a lot of money so she just didn't talk about money at all. she had the bills covered, she had everything covered so it didn't matter anyway. if they had to go without a few luxuries like a trip to relax for a little while or a beautiful car then that was how it was going to be. and then once they were both working and both had the jobs that they wanted, then they could start to be more careless with the money they earned.

jess couldn't really understand why he wanted to be married so badly. if he didn't want to make a spectacle out of it with a wedding then why did he want her to be his wife? she knew that there was more to it than simply a beautiful wedding but he had told her himself that he was happy with how they were right now. at the beginning, she had figured that it was because he was insecure about her leaving him for someone else but surely after three years he understood that she loved him and that she didn't want anyone else. "but you know that i don't want to. it's unfair of you to tell me that we can't have kids until we're married just because it's what you want. there's no good reason for us to get married right now, no reason at all. you're being completely unfair and stupid." she told him, keeping her back to him. glancing at him when he said that she was going to talk about it, she shook her head. "no, i bought up doing something that would make us both happy, something that i thought we both wanted. you changed the subject and started making demands so i'm ending the conversation here. you don't get what you want and i don't get what i want. happy?" she asked, storming away from him again with the warmed bottle in her hand. it took a few minutes of whining to get chloe up. jess knew that she should leave her to sleep but she needed a distraction from jaxon and this conversation. it was selfish of her to wake up her baby to get it but she made her way to the sofa, chloe still half asleep and cuddled with her.
